Hello

Just to clear things up my wiring knowledge is very limited just to ease my mind can someone verify that the ELW 4046 harness is no where near the same wiring configuration as the original wiring but will still work if hooked up as per instruction s there is one wire inside the cab that is confusing it is # 2 and says it goes to horn to horn button and an other wire spliced into it #13 which goes to ignition feed I didn't think there where any horn connection s inside the cab if some can set me straight I would appreciate it want to carry on I tried the supplier but no response yet thx

Horns are wired as follows. Hot wire to under hood horn + terminal, neg horn terminal to horn "button". That negative wire is a wire coming down thru the column from the mast jacket/bearing which has a metal ring that is touched buy the horn contact. This completes the ground-to-chassis path and honks. It is not a hot wire. Try to reconcile this with whatever your harness says. Also see this:
Schematic Diagram for 1947
(hopefully same as 1946)
"Horn Switch" is whatever button you have, normal or clamped on.
It seems they did not use a relay in 46.

Hi thanks for the information. I do have the wiring dia. My wire for the horn exits on the other side of the fire wall down by the steering box. The confusing part is the wire from the harness that says horn to horn button also has a wire spliced in and it says it goes to ignition switch feed. any ideas? thanks. I am thinking maybe it was for an aftermarket push button on dash maybe?

Study the Wiring diagram I linked. Find the wire coming out of the column and wire it per my suggestion. Maybe ignore what you think your harness says. It sounds like you are wanting to connect hot to the horn button. I don't think that is correct. If you have the normal horn button in center of steering wheel, it should have that wire I mentioned.

"My wire for the horn exits on the other side of the fire wall down by the steering box."

Let us know what both ends of this wire are connected to? or if only one end is connect, what it is connected to.

Your harness diagram/info may be thinking you have a relay. In which case the wiring is different than what I said/linked. Maybe that's where the confusion is. You need to see if you have or want a horn relay involved.

After much study, I found that #2 is tapped off #8 inside the harness. Since both #2 & 13 are HOT", I taped the ends of #2 & 13 so they would not short out. I could not find any use for #2 & 13.

I wonder if it is for the switch used with Town and country horns?
