What should the diameter of the hole where the clutch linkage rod attaches to the clutch pedal assembly? Mine appears to be about 1/2" diameter with the edges of the clutch pedal assembly tapered. Is this correct, or should the hole be smaller? The end of the clutch linkage rod is approximately 5/16".

Tim,

I also have a 49 1/2 ton and the hole on the end of my clutch pedal is the same as yours. There is a large round on both sides of the hole all the way around. It appears very smooth so I assume it was probably made like that. My linkage rod is 5/16" as you said and the hole in the pedal measures roughly 0.420" with calipers (with a coat of paint in there). The hole looks very round so I assume it is probably factory as well. My clutch linkage rod does fit in the pedal very sloppily which I'm sure is probably why you are asking. The spring should take all the slop out and hold it against the toeboard.

1866yellowboy,

Thank you for responding. After stripping the clutch pedal arm it appears that the .420" hole with the tapers is a hardened steel insert? Guess that is why there is very little wear on the arm. I thought maybe the clutch pedal arm needed a bushing to take up the slack. I understand that the return spring will take up the slack. Going to leave it alone and go with it.
