My 1951 Chevy 1/2 ton has been overpainted once (very poorly)with Hunter Green. I want to restore it to the original color and have done some research. The original color is exposed in several places and looks to be Brewster Green - not the dark Forrester Green which was standard. However paint codes for 1951 do not include Brewster Green - only Seacrest (too light and too blue)and Aspen Green? I do note that Brewster Green was available for 1951 cars. My color printer does not do a good job with paint chip colors. There were a lot of Green Chevy trucks out there diring 1947-54. Anybody got some input as to the correct color? Thanks, BW

It looks like the factory green colors used on Chevrolet trucks in 1951 were:

Forester Green, used 1947-1952
Seacrest Green, used 1947-1952

Brewster Green was used 1936-1948 (and again in 1957)
Channel Green was used 1947-1949
Juniper Green was used 1954-1955
Ocean Green was used 1953-1955 (one list says 53-57)
Forest Green was used in 1956

I do not see Hunter Green or Aspen Green in the lists that I have.

It looks like you have two choices and, as you say, Forester Green (quite dark) is distictly different from Seacrest Green (lighter and with a little blue).

It is hard to trust old paint chips (and new pigments giving the same color as the original). Are you able to get a computer match on the places with newly exposed original paint (probably not because of the piece being the cab)?

Good luck,
Tim

I think the problem is you are looking at exposed paint. After 50+ years of exposure to the elements, the paint will fade. Like Tim says, you need to find a spot of paint that has not been exposed. Like under the rubber seals around the windows.

Another good place to look for the original color is behind the voltage regulator on the firewall.

I don't believe that Brewster Green or Aspen Green were truck colors. At least not in the period 51-54. As far as I know (which may not be much grin ) the only dark green colors available for trucks from 1951-54 were either Forester Green or Juniper Green, depending on the year. These two colors were very similar. Here's a color chart online that shows the 1951-1954 Commercial Colors .

Jeff - I took your advice and looked under the regulator. Looks like Juniper Green to me! Thanks for the help. I knew it was lighter than Forester Green, but not by too much. The 1951-54 color chart was very helpful. Bob W.
