I like the look of the filler pipe that runs trough the bedside. My tank is original and I feel like the metal is a little worn to just clean etch and seal. I have noticed some manufacturers have started making an original aftermarket tank that looks like original but is a little pricey ranging between 329 and 425 before shipping. I was wanting to know if anyone had used a newer tank that fit in this area and allowed for the side fill through the bedside. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 1,624 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2005 Posts: 1,624 | "Tanksinc.com" has a tank for a 49-54 truck. Cost is $150.00 pluse $45.00 for the fuel sender/pickup . I thought the 48 through early 54 were about the same. You could call and see if this tank would fit your needs. Good luck.

The 1948 tank was under the bed, between the frame rails (as described by 48 chevy truck dude). Maybe someone knows if the 47-53 panel-body tank is the same/similar?
The 49-53 standard-cab-trucks' tanks were the same style.
The 1954/55 tank had a top-mounted sender AND gas "pickup" tube (but, maybe the 49-53 tank could be used in 54/55).

Remove by cutting and weld patches to anything in the wrong place such as filler pipes or return port for fuel injecting. Cut your holes and weld in your filler pipe and sender port and your done. A new tank will not have fuel vapors so it's a snap.
