I am putting my doors back together and find the inside latch mechanism seems upside down as I look at the metal stamping of the door inside it has a recess where the bar goes from the lever back to the lock but mine will only fit going at an angle and rubs on the cardboard cover. Do I have the wrong part or year part? The assembly manual and repair show them both ways depending on which picture you look at. Any wisdom you could provide will be appreciated. Lou

So can I buy or find a different year that will fit properly in the stamped recess?

The point is, the original factory parts didn't fit into those recesses.
I don't know why the inner panels were stamped that way unless they were a hold over from the '46 and earlier models which had different door hardware.

I believe that they did fit in those recesses in in the earlier ADs, when the inside handle was pushed forward to open the door. They were changed in later model years to a pull-to-open configuration, requiring the glued on spacers mentioned above, to clear the cardboard door panels.

I think Carl may be right??
My memory is a little foggy but when I was doing my doors I remember having one of the control arms fitting the recess and one that didn't. I had bought two doors for my 52 and was using the control arms from the OLD door. Then I remembered one of the old doors was a 1950 door on my 52panel. Problem solved. Ordered the correct control arm and it did not fit the recess on my 52 as mentioned above.

....sometimes I wish I had used the ones that fit the contour of the door and pushed, rather than pull, the inside door handle as I believe the cardboard door panels would fit better and flatter?

EDIT: its only my opinion but I think they were changed to pull rather than push door handles as a safety issue???
