What I am trying to figure out is the age according to the mold numbers. First off they are still Brand New,Never mounted. Made in Mexico. The Markings/Panels on the sidewall read, In the first oval, 7.50-17 NYLON Capacidad 8 Capas SIN CAMARA Should be the Ply Rating? Next Oval, NPX7 LKOT 117 Birthday of the Tire? Third oval, What looks like a Flag/Banner on a pole over, Tragaleguas G8 MEO3101-24 KP. Ratings and inflation info? Longbox 55, Anybody?? Thanks for any help. steve sr.

They looked brand new and had been stored inside for about 20 years I think it was. After about 10 or 15,000 miles they started shucking chunks off the tread.
So if the price is right get them, (mine were free) but if you have to pay much at all I'd pass and get newer tires.

Ed That's from new regulations from the DOT as well as the RMA. When dealing with new stock, anything over 6 years old can't even be sold as a "new" tire anymore in the US. Most companies remove them from stock and send them outside the US where the regulations aren't as strict. With used, both the age and condition come into play. Many shops won't touch used tires, regardless of age, due to liabilities. So far, the US does not have anything in place as far as tires that are already on a vehicle for age, unlike some countries.

The date codes follow a Week/Year format, and after '00, it went for a 3 digit format to a 4 digit format to prevent confusion.
