I keep having connection problems on the 1 ton 1950. I took off the battery cables and cleaned the connection points. The starter was really gooey. I cleaned the battery posts, I cleaned the cables and then reattached them. Now, nothing and the foot stomper seems to stick. I replaced the spring with one off my parts truck and it still seems sticky. So my questions:
1. I swapped out the positive cable as the old one was pretty rough. Is it possible I have the wrong size? Looked the same.
2. Where does the ground strap attach to the engine/Tranny as mine was disconnected? I have since reconnected it. It worked turn over with it on or with it off.

If nothing else, the battery is fried... Afraid to boost until I know more.
Thanks

6v or 12v electrical system?

If 6v, the gauge of the battery cable/strap should be no smaller in diameter than 2 gauge.

1, 0, or 00 (2/0) gauge cable and ground strap are better

Do not use a di-electric grease at connectors - use a conductive anti-oxidant grease such as these

Passenger side bell housing. There are two bolts that hold on the foot starter assembly. One of them connects the strap then to the top frame rail right across from it. Should be a hole there to accommodate it.

So guess what?! It wasn't the battery's fault after all! Well... yes it did need to be replaced, but the fuel pump was jammed up.
I tore into the fuel lines.
Petcock on tank... Clean. What the? Hm, ok
Fuel filter at tank....clean. What the? Hm, ok
Fuel filter at carb...clean. What the? Hm, ok
Fuel lines.... All clean. What the heck and beans?
So I took off the fuel pump and whoa!!!!
The rubber that was used to seal top lid had swelled terribly and was stopping the pump from sucking. No wonder the old girl would barely run!
Changed the rubber and now along with the clean cables and new battery....Purrrrrrrr.

Having two malfunctions at the same time is always the most "fun" to diagnose. Good find!

Better check the oil for fuel. Don't want to mess up the bearings!

Could the fuel pump being backed up like that cause fuel to get into the pan? Would it push past and get in through the pump hole in the block?
