Is it directly behind the camshaft? There is supposed to be an expansion plug about 1-3/4" diameter driven into the block directly behing the cam.

You need a cup shaped soft plug, you can get them at a parts store. While you have it apart, there is a freeze plug just below it, about the same size, and dish style. If it's brass, leave it in. I would replace the steel one.
