There are two post sticking out of the back of the gas gauge, one is used to hook up the wire from the sender. Which post does the sender wire go to ?
What goes to the other post ?........thanks....J

What year?

Between 47-55 (at least) the hot input lead goes to post behind E (Empty - on the left, from the front of the gauge) and the lead to the sender in the fuel tank is behind F (Full - on the right, from the front on the gauge).

During those years (at least), there was red warning label (somewhat like the red label here) on the sender post of the fuel gauge.

Ditto for 1946, Tim.
I rewired my truck and at the same time converted to 12 Volts. Of course, I purchased a 12 volt tank sending unit and float. The post behind the "E" (outboard) was smaller than the other (inboard) which seemed counterintuitive to me, but I tested everything with jumpers first to confirm I had it right.

This is the info I needed , also. The schematic showed one thing, but the red tag, was on the inboard post. The tag, and sending wire should be on the outboard post?
