I have what I thought was the right manual for my 51, it's a reprint (was listed as an original when I bought it) and "covers" 47-54 and models 100-400. It can be helpful for 1947-1952 models also In my searching I see that GMC did offer a manual to cover the 1951/52 model trucks size 100-350, this is the exact manual that covers my particular GMC. If I am incorrect, please post a link to a specific manual. As Grigg posted, the "reproduction" GMC manuals are often multi-year, and the 1954/55 (Z-series) GMC wiring might be a little different, due to different dash. However, the type of gauges did not change, just the style and location of gauges. The GMC and Chevrolet Truck gauges were not at all similar in 1954/1955st trucks. I have a 1954 3/4 on factory flatbed with a 4 speed with granny low. Cab needs some body work. It's just a shell. no glass. motor, trans and rear are all there and working. Recently overhauled and all new brakes. It is all original. It has the gauges and I bought a Painless Wire harness for it Got good gas tank behind seat. No original seat. I got 2 black leather power seats that will work well. First time doing something like this. I think I took on too much with this project.

If anyone has one of the earlier GMC manuals with X-5111 in the corner of the cover I'd like to see pictures/scans of the wiring diagrams.
I'm not really expecting any significant differences compared to the 53/54 wiring diagrams but I'd like to look and see just for my own curiosity.

A small 1951 GMC operators manual that should have a wiring diagram in it though not sure how detailed, hopefully fully.
Also a 1949 GMC maintenance manual, I can then at least compare the 49 diagram to the reprinted 53/54 diagram, and if no difference then likely 51 is also no difference.
In time I'll find a 51 maintenance manual at a better price. They are pretty large clear images and should print well. They can all be found in this album https://goo.gl/photos/H26qPfBHb7eS15698Here is the 1951 GMC diagram from the owners manual. https://goo.gl/photos/UvtdEAKaUC6EATES9To answer the original question: The 1951 conventional truck wiring diagram is the same info as on the 1953 diagram. The 1953 diagram however includes more info for the optional hydromatic, optional electric wipers, and optional electric two speed axle. The 1951 and 1953 COE wiring diagrams I believe are exactly the same, no changes/additions. The 1949 diagram is drawn in a different configuration and hard to compare, though it obviously functions about the same I suspect there might be a few connection details/differences. The wire color code is a legend on a separate page. I believe there are some differences in the color code for the same wire function between the 1949 and 1953 diagrams. Grigg | | |
