The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Paint Prep for 2nd Coat

Hey guys, I need some advice. Last fall I painted my truck bed and ran out of paint before I could apply a second coat. Had to have more mixed and the weather turned off too cold to complete the job. Now I need to apply a 2nd coat. What kind of prep needs to be done? The paint is Burgundy Maroon and it is Martin Senour Acrylic Enamel. According to the data sheet, time to recoat says any time. Does it need to be scuffed or can I wipe it down good with solvent and go the next coat? I was able to get one more quart mixed before NAPA ran out of the pigment needed to mix it, so this is the last I'm going to be able to get. Thanks.

Did you add hardener to the paint or did you just reduce it ?

Previous coat has hardener and reducer both added.

First wash the hole truck with soap like dawn or even laundry detergent just make sure it doesn't have any lanolin in it. You can take some 600 grit wet dry and wet sand the area to be repainted make sure to use a wet sanding block so you dont leave finger waves. wash the truck down again than clean it with a wax/degreaser.
