If your hanger pin is threaded with a grease fitting on the outboard side and you have a hole lined up through the truck frame, here's what I do to remove the pressed in bushing.

Take the grease fitting out of the pin.

Un-screw the pin from the bushing.

Turn the pin around and screw it back in until there is only about 3/4" showing. This is done so you're hitting the solid end of the pin, not the drilled hollow end.

Using a 8 pound sledge hammer take about a 18" swing and hit the pin dead square head on. As the bushing moves in, screw the pin out for another hit and re-peat until you've driven it out through the hole in the frame.

Sometimes a little heat on the cast hanger bracket helps...

Hope this helps,

Mike B smile

Thanks Mike sounds like a winner.....also I liked your story on the 56 3100. Im in a similar situation with this truck. My 30 year old son is working with me on this project. He has two small kids ao is able to help 1 day a week. We are building a resto/rat rod with an LS motor I also restored a 1957 Belair 2dr HT in the 80's

Thanks, my son was able to help with some of the two man parts, but for the most part I was on my own...glad it's done. Now I'm off to the next project, the '56 Brush Truck...
