Got my new floor mat for my 1949 Chevrolet 3100 1/2 ton from JC truck parts. This mat is universal for both 3 speeds and 4 speed transmissions. What is the best way to cut the hole for the 4 speed transmission? Anyone have a template or original measurements to cut the hole accurately? Suggestions?

Tim

I had to make a template using taped together paper grocery bags for my '37. It took a bit of trial and error, and of course time. But, I finally got it and a huge grin on this old wrinkled gray bearded mug when it was done. Hope this helps and good luck!

Most of the AD mats have very faint markings to aid in this work, is the one from JC not configured that way?

Brad,

Thanks for the response and question. I don't see any faint markings on the mat from JC. If they are there, my old eyes can't make them out....a magnifying glass didn't help either, so I'm guess the JC mats aren't marked. Got any suggestions for measuring and cutting that 4 seed hole accurately?

Fold it up door to door and place it in the spot you want, Unfold down (or up) to the shifter and use your marker to mark the location of the hole. Cut a small X and unfold the carpet. Place the hole over the shifter and smooth the carpet into place. Use your razor to finish trimming the hole to your desired specifications. Good luck.

How hard is it to remove the shifter arm from the transmission? If that's do-able, you could lay out the carpet and cut your hole where the shifter arm used to be. You should be able to feel it.

I used cardboard as a template with pretty good luck.
