The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop side window jumping the track 1940 PU

Its popping out of the track closest to the front of the truck-it start coming out near the bottom of the groove (on the way up). I put new wiskers in and the glass seems to fit pretty tight. It appears that I could maybe shim out the U TRACK style wiskers at the bottom to keep the glass more into the grooves, or attach a thin plate to the bottom of that track where it tends to come out. IDEAS?????

I've had this problem several times on different cars. I'm just acting questions here. Is it a "smokers" type window where the window kind of tilts as it goes up to allow a crack to stay toward the top front to allow smoke to excape, as on a mid thirties Ford truck. Also there should be two wheels or rollers that are in a groove below the glass. Is one of the 'popping out of the groove? Another problem I've had is one of the channels had broken or separated from it mounting point on the door. This will let the channel 'twist'. I would open up the door on the other window and try to figure out where the two are different. Good luck.

I did use a mix of parts.........but the channel is brand new. I have two more regulators- any way to tell if what I have on is a smoker? It does appear to not go up evenly. I have not installed the new track on the other side yet- planned to get this one done first. Now maybe I will to see how it works? George

THe wheels are staying on the regulator- it just pops out of the track at the front/lower track. I shimmed out the track some and that helped.

A smoker window will not have the vent window in front of it. The track/regulator allows (as you lower the window) the window to drop down at the top front first.
Can to hang a plumb bob from you channels to the section that holds the bottom of the window to see if they are plumb?
Mix of parts? What mix? Is the front roller allowing the window to go down below the track? Is the bottom of the widow, when rolled down, parallel to the floor? Do you have the right piece of glass and is the top cut correctly?
I'm not there so maybe silly questions.

No vent window. The mix of parts is the handle/latch, the door, and regulator- they all came off different trucks.The glass was cut new and fit perfectly inside the factory window frame. I just tried it a few more times and it seems better I shimmed out the front track about mid way up with some stiff foam and the glass stays in. I may even attach a thin piece of sheet metal in the area to extend the actual track out maybe another inch. I'll do that BEFORE I attach the door covers.
Will be driving it to the monthly cruise in tomorrow night- actually the first time I've had it out. George

Assuming the regulator assembly is working correctly ( raising glass evenly both sides ), it sounds like your window track is either worn out or shifted out of place. You can purchase new, flexible track that is pretty easy to install - fairly deep channel ( 3/4" ?? ). As I recall, there are metal tabs in the window opening that help locate the track to keep it tight on the edge of the glass.
