My 53 front bumper is in serious need of re chroming. After reviewing another post I wonder if the Hard Hat paint would work instead. I read that Krylon makes a satin nickle which would look good on my low gloss body paint, but would it be as durable as the Rusto and if not does Rusto make that color? Thanks, Steve

You can't fix chrome with paint.
One paint is as bad as another so choose one you can buy touch up cans of anywhere. That way you can roll into any town and freshen up the look without worrying about durability.
Durability is what chrome is for.

ditto on spray paint. If you want more durability but don't want to spend $$ on chome, you might try an industrial urethane that is made for heavy equipment. That is not going to come in a spray can though and as CASO said, it still will not hold up as well as chrome. I painted the bumpers on my 59 Suburban with rustoleum hammered paint. It looks great for the first week or two, after a 6600 mile road trip, it gets chips etc in it and needs to be re-sprayed.

If you considered going to white or black, you could spray paint it... nothing silver looking will look good as it's a weak attempt to look like chrome.

Dads50, that does look good, mine looked good too for a while but, as a daily driver, and sitting outside in the elements, it gets beat up and faded after a year or two. 10-15 bucks for a couple of cans of paint and some tape and newspaper and a couple hours to repaint every year or so, it will take a lot of years to come close to the cost of having the front and rear bumpers chromed I suppose!

For clearcoat, I just got a set of aluminum wheels on my F250 recoated with a POR15 product called Glisten PC. Gives a nice hard permanent finish, but don't know the compatibility with rattle can paint. And the stuff is expensive, especially to get it here to Alaska.

Wayne, the product overview says it is for temporary use. What if I just left it on? Has anyone here ever used it?
