I would like to rebuild the mechanical pump on my '53 2 ton truck with the 235 engine in it.
Removing the pump looks really simple. I am curious if pump installation is as simple. I have heard that some fuel pumps can be a bear to install.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It is as simple as it looks. Of course, use a new gasket.
| | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 Ex Hall Monitor | | Ex Hall Monitor Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 | The only thing I know of that can make it a tad challenging is if the cam lobe just happens to be in the "wrong" position which can make it more difficult to get the bolts started because it's holding the pump away from the block. I've used two methods to combat this issue. I've use a longer bolt to draw the pump to the block. After which I put the stock bolt in the other hole, tighten it, then swap the first bolt for the stock bolt. The other is to turn the engine until the lobe isn't an issue. Both methods have their advantages/disadvantages. Others may have other methods better than mine. Overall it's pretty easy as Tim said.

Sometimes the little pin in the pump that the lever pivots on starts to come out one side. If it comes out far enough it can block a wrench or a socket from the bolt head. | | |
