We've established previously that I have a 1960 235 block. I was looking at the passenger side oil, passage that runs vertically from directly above the distributor hole up to eventually oil the rocker assembly. My question is: What is the purpose of the tapped and plugged hole in this passage? http://www.1954advance-design.com/Web%20images/1958-60-rocker-oil/1958-rocker-arm-lubrication.html
Figure 18 shows it.
Thanks

you mean figure 15? I would assume that plug comes out for cleaning or it was for initial drilling of that passage then blocked off to force the oil to the front through the other passage shown.

Yes, I meant 15. I guess they had to have access to drill the horizontal portion of the hole.

When I got a short block from a aclands years ago there was a tube that went under the side cover on the passenger side that provided oil for the head and rockers .the guy at the time told me the older 235,s never had a oil gallery. New ones have . After installing my engine no oil up under valve cover had to go back and install tube.
