Stovebolters, I have developped a strong need to bolt-on an exterior visor on my '53 Chevrolet. Are these units being reproduced? I can't seem to find a vendor that has one?

I had a visor on my truck, liked the look but I couldn't see the overhead traffic lights. My neck hurt from stretching around to see the signal change.I bought an original GM prism viewer to see overhead but it was like looking through a fish tank.

Whizzer,

Big Jim's has reproductions. Can't vouch for the quality of parts or service since I haven't bought anything from this vendor yet.

Whiz, as nice as your truck is you should probably hold out for a good NOS visor. The ones for your years are plentiful.

There was a short time I had a line on the rare 54 visor but then there was a certain Arizona dust storm. frown

Good point TonyM.
I'm not ready to make a move, just building up an alphabetical wish list: I'm in the 'V's' now.

Kidding aside, I'm learning to recognize the elements I'd be susceptible to come accross at the swaps.
I've seen plenty of visors, but did not have a truck...
IF I decide to install one, it will be an original item.

Now for the W's: wolf whistle, whitewalls...

There were a few for sale in the swap meet last I looked. Just do a search. Good luck.

I know that one of the Stovebolt members located in Arizona and has ads for other AD parts, has many used visors available: Peekat, Fulton, factory, etc.

I've bought many parts from this person over many years and I give him high marks for the parts.

I know, he had one for me, then a dust storm (last spring) damaged a bunch of his stuff including MY rare 54 visor.

Now my truck budget is gone anyway.

He probably has 47/53 visors aplenty though.

Is the external visor on my '54 250 the same?

My real question: Did GMC put internal visors on rigs equipped with the external?

It is probably the same. The exterior visors were dealer installed. There are Chevy visors and the slightly less desirable Fulton visors and could be installed on any option package.

Thank you, Tony. I've always thought it was one of the strong points of the cab's "look". So, you're saying the truck probably came from Pontiac with inside visors and the external was added.

My brother-in-law really cracks the whip with this restore stuff. I did manage to find a '53 Jimmy one ton longbed that still had two knobs (chrome with maroon-- he scowled at me when I said I was buying aftermarket) and I think I might make an offer on the grill. Need to look at it again.

It was my understanding that only the Deluxe GMC's came with two inside visors, although you'll have to ask the Kook if the outside visor was even offered on standard models (which only had a driver's inside visor). My guess is it was a dealer option more common to the Deluxe.

Drop me an email if you need a maroon window crank; I have an odd one around here, somewhere, I think. And tell your brother-in-law to get his own truck. :p

Whizzerrick, before ya invest in one, make sure you can see out of a truck with one installed. I really like the looks of the Fulton,(had a mint one that I traded to "some guy in AZ." a couple of years ago),but I'm 6'3" and I'd be drivin' hunched over all the time.If you're 6' or over I'd make sure you could live with it.
