For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 38 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 38 | Greetings from Australia,
I have a 1940 Big Bolt ex-Australian Army General Service truck. I looked in the gallery and under the division of the "Depression Years" trucks it identifies them as Eagle and Master Eagle.
Can someone let me know what made one truck and "Eagle" and another truck becoming identified as a "Master Eagle"?
Plus could anyone give me a hint as to the whereabouts on the chassis or elsewhere an Identification Number would be stamped so that I can work out what weight capacity my truck is?

I've never seen the Series names that were used for the passenger cars to be used for the trucks as well. The 1933 "Eagle" was the name used to identify the bottom of the line passenger cars which were also called the Mercury Series. The top of the line passenger cars were the "Master Eagle". The Gallery also shows 1934 & 35 as being Eagle Series, this is incorrect, they were simply called Master & Standard in 1935 and Master Deluxe & Standard in 1935. 1933 was the last year for a series name until after the war. Trucks were always identified by their series letter. 1933's were CB for 1/2 ton and O for 1-1/2 ton. Who made your truck, Holden or Chevrolet or ??? Look for a tag on the fire wall, seat frame, glove box door or door post. Serial numbers were not stamped on the frames in the US until 1955. Thank you for the My truck has a Holden built cab on a Chevrolet chassis and running gear. It has a windscreen that tilts on two top hinges. This was an Army modification for desert conditions.
It also has vent on the driver's and passenger cabin wall on the sides to let air in around the legs.
Plus pivoting quarter vent windows for each side as well as the sliding glass windows.
The front mudguards - fenders have also been trimmed to allow more clearance between the wheels.

Thank you for your reply and for the technical details attachment. Looks like I have some reading ahead of me :0). Was a similar publication produced for the 1940 range?

I hope the Heritage Center keeps on adding to their data base.

I think I may try to contact them next week. I'd like to know when they put in something *new* ... especially if it pertains to our years, and our trucks.
Lately, there hasn't been much change but some of the stuff is a bit buried.
I've added their logo and link to many Gallery page top left corner. If I knew they added something new (that applies to us), I could put that in the spot. It's a one-fixer so I would do all the pages at once.
Something else to do - the contact part. If they are responsive, it would be worthwhile for the information.
Peg

The interesting things is that their "Heavy Duty Trucks" only go up to 1 1/2 ton trucks with a a wheel base of 158 1/2 inches on page 8 Accessed April 4th 2016 from, https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/do...hevrolet-Trucks/1940-Chevrolet-Truck.pdfI found a photograph of a similar truck to mine at the Australian War Memorial and it is identified as a Three Ton truck - G.S stands for General Service truck ID number 127795 AUSTRALIA. LORRIES, 3-TON G.S. (AUSTRALIAN). CHEVROLET. QUARTER FRONT VIEW, RIGHT SIDE.April 4th 2016 from, https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/127795On page 8 of the manual it does mention about dual wheels. Or was there another range of trucks that the Chevrolet manual from 1940 that was not listed on the GM-Heritage Site? I cannot get to the wheelbase of my truck at the moment because there are layers of shed "stuff" arranged around it. Or were there cross overs between the more heavy capacity trucks with the Chevrolet "Maple Leaf" series? Perhaps the knock-down version of engine, firewall and running gear that arrived in Australia to have a locally made cabin and tray assembled on it was manufactured in Canada?
