So the hood on my '56 doesn't really line up right. Today I took the hood off the hinges and the hinges off the firewall. Then I set the hood back on and latched it. Wow! The hood lines up pretty nicely now. So I get to looking at the hinges. The two 'gears' on both, don't really line up well and chew the sides of the cogs, not what I would call the mating surfaces. This lack of "correct meshing" of those gears prevented the hood from closing all the way and/or properly. Is there any fix for this other than getting some repop hinges?? Is bending things to line up better an option?? Thanks in Advance!!

bending is NOT the answer! tho' they should be adjustable up/down & front/back - the hinges get worn so they're not tight enuff to deal w/ the spring tension - try using the hinges w/ no springs and see if hood works right - if it does [it will], need to replace'em - check your favorite vintage parts place , as they're being repo'd for the 55-57 now and they're excellent quality [Brothers for one has'em, prolly Carter and GoldenState, etc]

Squeeze...thanks for the reply. I took the springs off and put the hinges back on. The left one is more 'bound' than the right one. Anyhow, with the springs off the hood sits down pretty good (a whole lot better than with the springs in). I was looking at American Classic Truck Parts and they have used hinges for $75/set. Think I'll have to go that route. They were the only ones that had TF hood hinges that I noticed...the others I checked were Chevy Duty, LMC and Brothers.
