The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Driveline 1963 parking brake cable

I am installing new parking brake cables in my 1963 C-10. The old one has a braided metal sheathing, and the new one (from Napa) has a rubber sheathing. The metal sheathing on the old one has a groove running around it at the end of the sheathing. There is a bracket that holds the cable to the arms that the axle attaches to. This bracket has two bumps that fit into the groove on the sheathing (to keep the sheathing from moving up and down the cable, although it is secured to the brake backing plate). The new cable's rubber sheathing does not have this groove. Is it OK to just go ahead and put the bracket on the rubber sheathing, or do I need to get a different bracket (or cable)?

This is all very clear in my head but I may not have done a good job describing it, so if I have confused you on anything I will try to clarify it

I guess pictures would help to make things more clear. I think you will want to secure the cables to the control arms somehow. Otherwise they will droop to much.

That's what I was thinking. My Flickr account isn't behaving itself right now, but as soon as I can figure it out i'll post some pictures. also, since my last post I've looked at cables from several other companies and they all appear to be lacking the groove just like mine.

I'm very sorry I took so long responding again, I completely forgot. Anyway I finally got my Flickr problem figured out, it wasn't showing up in public searches because I am under 18. Here are some pictures:

I hope this Helps. The bracket bolts directly to the control arm. You may be able to see the indentations on the outside of the bracket that hold it in place on the cable to keep the cable from moving.

I mentioned before that I can't find any cables from any other distributors that doesn't exactly match my new one, so it seems that anyone who replaced their parking brake cable would have had the same problem i'm having. Am I just looking in the wrong places for cables?
