Has anyone replaced their springs entirely with foam? the wife and I recently purchased a dual layer foam mattress that is very firm. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2015 Posts: 273 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2015 Posts: 273 | Never done it, but I know in rear seats of hot rods where the seat is just a pad on the floor, it is done. They usually use different foam for seats, bolsters, etc. And you can carve it with an old electric carving knife.

It has been about 15-16 years though. I will probably end up doing the same on my 58 2-ton as soon as I get to that point which should be soon. I am close to getting it on the road and sitting on a 5 gallon bucket will not work going down the road! Larry is correct, an old electric meat carving knife works GREAT for cutting foam! | | | | | Joined: Feb 2015 Posts: 273 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2015 Posts: 273 | Man, watching all that TV finally paid off !!! AFAIK the different colours denote the different densities. The lower (base) was much denser than the backrest,he then used a re-pop upholstery kit from one of the many vendors. He also made the backrest slightly thinner which gained him some much needed extra legroom. In the end it looked factory,he did a fairly in depth "How to" documenting the build i'll see if I can find a link. Here's his build thread,I realise it's a different truck to yours but there's some inspiring stuff! Indeed a talented man! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/my-53-chevy-truck-project.629357/

I've definately got this truck thing in my blood ... my DNA sequence has torque settings"Of all the small nations of this earth, perhaps only the ancient Greeks surpass the Scots in their contribution to mankind" Winston Churchill.
