So my master cylinder is empty, and my brake pedal stays on the floor after being depressed. Shouldn't the springs inside the bore of the MC push it back? If they're not strong enough, shouldn't there be a return spring on the pedal itself? I'm really only familiar with stuff from the 70's or newer. I haven't found any good illustrations showing that yet.

Normally there is a return spring on the pedal arm, somewhere.

On a 55.2, should I be looking inside the cab, or under the floor?

Under the floor attached to the pedal going forward to the frame

Thanks! I'll check it out. I'm sure the pivot points are all a little rusty, but it didn't feel too difficult pushing it to the floor. I suspect something about the return spring is less than ideal.

The pedal return spring is located above the MC. It connects the pedal arm right above the pivot pin and goes back to the rear corner of the MC mounting bracket. You can see the spring if you look through the floor fill hole towards the frame rail.
