The hits keep on coming….in my 1955 2nd 235 to 265 engine swap.
Finally bolting on the exhaust manifolds. Right side fits no problem. But the left side exhaust directly interferes with the 3-on-the-tree shift arms and linkage!!!
Even if it didn't, I discovered another issue: First/Reverse has a pivot arm post on the 6 cylinder bell housing, and no such arm post appears on the v-8 bell housing!
ANY suggestions or help is very much appreciated!!
Thanks,
Marc

The Rams Horn Manifolds didn't come out until 1957. The 1955/56 265 has a Log Manifold, rear dump on passenger side, front dump on drivers side...which do you have? Mike B

The left side exhaust manifold (2 bolt flange) drops out near the #3 cylinder. In fact the only reason Im using factory manifolds at all is because the generator mount.
Also, I looked at a thread on the same subject from 2008..that is, swapping a inline 6 to V-8….Apparently there is a different shifter box which uses a 'S' type arm which provides enough clearance from the exhaust manifold.
It is new information to me that I will need entirely new shift linkage…hopefully a fellow bolter will have a pair out there.

The exhaust is not the issue as it goes under the cross member. The only thing I see is the back spark plug is only a few inches away from the column, so maybe that's it...the V8 was to wide and they had to change the linkage to miss the plugs??? When GM started using alternators is when the manifolds changed, which I believe was 1963
