Mechanical Fuel pump - If you take the output (line to carb) off, and leave the line to the gas tank on, the fuel pump should not leak and continue to drip gas. True or False?

If you turn the fan/water pump pulley by hand, and the belt turns, the cranks shaft pulley should not turn without the engine turning over. True or False? Plugs are in it still.

If I just wanted to do a engine and 3 speed trans swap, all stock, but both re-done and ready to drop in, what are my options, best choices etc?

I may need to start with a clean slate...

Fuel pump should drip I believe, pretty sure it will siphon the tank if you let it. The crank can and will turn by the fan if the engine is worn out and has low compression. You may have a situation where the balancer has come apart and only the outer ring is turning, in that case all you need is a new balancer.
For a remanufactured engine, a 230-250 would be a drop in swap, a 292 would also fit with different frame mounts. I doubt the transmission needs much, the 230 didn't have a lot of power, maybe a clutch, but that would be about it. Shop local for the engine, shipping will be high other wise. Shop around for the engines, some places just use total junk when the rebuild them, ask what brand of parts are being used.

I don't have much to add but I am going through this right now in my 1965 C10. A remanufactured 230 or 250 from OReilly was about $1600, required a core. and came with a nice warranty. The 250 would be my choice and they look the same on the outside.

I ended up buying a recently rebuilt 230ci from a fellow Stovebolter who did a V8 SBC swap.

The 3 speed and original bell will bolt up to a SBC and you just re-use the engine perches and get new motor mounts. Just be aware that tall valve covers MIGHT interfere with the firewall. Also, the distributor cab interfere too if it is the taller HEI version.

I love the uniqueness of my inline 6 and for a daily driver I am totally happy.
