Help,
I've searched the forums, got an apology from my local NAPA dealer and spent hours searching the internet for a parts source for the 4 inch wide drum brakes on my 1956 C6500 2 ton truck.

The part I need looks similar to this but it should be a single spring, not two like the one in the picture.

Assuming those are the shoe return springs, not sure if they are the same but, I bought some Raybestos H9226 springs off Ebay for my 1958 6400.

Has anyone upgraded from a single master cylinder to dual master cylinder power brakes using this kit? Scroll to the bottom of the page and my apologies in advance if this is considered a plug.

Brake Booster kit

that kit looks like it is for a 1/2 ton. I have one similar on my 59 Suburban. diameter of the master cylinder is too small for a 2-ton. It won't push enough fluid.

I don't believe anyone make a "kit" for the big trucks, you would need to pull it together on your own. Your '56 6500 MC has a 1-1/4" bore, so that's the bore size you need to look for.

If all of the parts are new you should have many years of good service from the original system.

Make sure all of the lines (steel and rubber) are new as they fail from the inside out, replace/rebuild the MC and wheel cylinders and go through the shoes, adjusters and springs.

Don't forget to make sure the parking brake is in good working order and adjusted as well.

Thanks for the help. We, my neighbors and I are getting it ready for the road so we can haul stone to fix our privately maintained road. They are both retired and grew up around these trucks plus one owned an excavation business.
They are replacing the brake lines and going through the truck to ensure it road worthy, to date I have been using it around my property and stopping by turning off the engine. lol. ohwell
