Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 934 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 934 | I'm continuing work on my Suburban (1950) by patching and cutting. I have a question about the lower rear valence area that bolts onto the lower left and right rear corners. There are a couple captured nuts on the inside of these two out and lower corners. Does someone have a picture of this area and the part that bolts to each corner below the tailgate area? Seems like I am missing this piece. Related: I see that Jim Carter's catalog has parts for this area (SM574, and SM575) but I am not sure where these are located and wondering if these are the sheet metal parts I need. (?) Thank in advance. I do not like to try to search JCs site, but here are the lower rear panel-body repair pieces: left right OK - I found them on JC's site: JC left? JC right? JC's parts seem to include the captive nuts needed to attach the hangers for the rear-valance/rear-stone-shield | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 934 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 934 | Thanks, Tim. This helps. Looks like I need to find or fabricate two end brackets for the stone shield. And if I understand correctly the brackets bolt to the inside of the lower rear corners using the captured nuts.
Thanks again. Tom

Two brackets at lower rear corners, and I think two brackets equi-distant underneath the rear valance/stone-shield.
I am not near my Suburban, or I would offer to take pictures. Maybe someone will do that for you?
Good luck,

I am in need of a photo or two of the brackets that attach to the lower rear corners and the rear gravel shield. Found a NOS gravel shield not long ago but missing the brackets.. Not sure what they look like and where to find them. Thanks, Weeds. PM sent.

Turns out my 53 is really a 52! There isn't any difference between the two years is there? | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | 1953 changes from 1952 (most info from JC): Door post ID plate is now blue & silver. I found one good corner bracket in the box of parts that came with the truck -and the other corner bracket broke in half. I guess I could weld the broken bracket and use it - not ideal - but its not a piece that sits in plain view either. Or attempt to make a new one...shouldn't be too complicated. thanks to all for the help. Very much appreciated.
