Merry Christmas to all!

I'm posting this for a friend whose 90 year-old father has a late 54/early 55 1/2 ton. He was in an accident recently, which damaged the hood of the truck. He's looking for a replacement hood ornament/emblem. My trucks are much earlier (37, 40) and I don't have knowledge of good aftermarket suppliers for these years' models. Can someone tell me who might be the best supplier for a good replacement?

Thanks in advance!

Jim

Nobody repros the 54/55 ornament. But I think you want the emblem. Chevy Duty has repros of those. Or I bet you could get a decent used one. Mothertrucker in AZ should have some used ones. You can find him through this website.

If you are refering to the bird hood ornament, I think in LMC's last catalog these hood ornaments are listed. I have an orginal sitting on the shelf in the garage, email me if you are interested.

Jim,

As was posted above, the chrome 3100 side emblems are readily available from restoration parts vendors (same part for 1953-1954; the 1955.5 side emblems are different).

The front hood "emblem" is often seen on eBay (1-3 a week) - some have small dings but be sure to ask if the 4 mounting posts are good. They are stainless steel and can be polished (and decals are available).

The chrome accessory hood ornament is an eagle-like bird with downswept wings - reproduction and used hood birds are also seen on eBay every so often (the reproduction ones are expensive - $150+, as I recall). The reproduction hood birds are sold by some vendors (aound $250 when I last looked). Make sure it comes with the mounting base.

Here is a question, on my 55.1 I have a strip that runs down the center of the hood. How does the hood bird mount to this hood type? Or was the strip an option at that time?

thanks,
Chris

From what I have seen, the ornament has a groove that allows it to sit on yop of the hood center strip.

That is right the ornament has a groove in the bottom to clear the center strip.

That strip wasn't an option - it covers the seam between the two hood halves.
