new to the forums and to 235 in general. I have a 53 chevy 210 PG car. got it running and runs well no odd noises. pulled the head to do some cleaning in the water jackets. So while I was in it I was doing a little inspecting and pulled the hyd lifters. Noticed the faced are pitted pretty bad on most and a few have chipped edges cam lobes look good smooth and clean. Planning on doing a rebuild towards the end of the yr. But I want to keep it going till then would it be better to replace them or just keep the orginals in there for now. thanks

New lifters on an old camshaft is not a good idea.

I thought that it was only a bad idea of old lifters on a new cam, but OK for new lifters on a good old cam?

Never, ever disturb the running relationship between a cam lobe and the lifter it's gotten used to running with. Any wear on the lifter will have corresponding damage to the cam lobe whether or not it's visible to the naked eye, so installing a new lifter on a used lobe will only exacerbate the wear that's already there. Button it back up, adjust the lifters per the service manual, and swap out the whole works, cam, lifters, and timing gears when you rebuild the engine.
