Hi All,
I'm looking for a good source for replacement wood spokes for wooden spoked wheels.
I was googling a week or so ago and found a place that I could buy replacement spokes, didn't book mark it and I even went back through history on my computer and couldn't find it.
I've spent hours this morning trying to relocate the site with no luck.
Anyone have a link to a site that sells replacement kits?
Thanks,
Dave

If you haven't already you might to to VCCA chat & register there so you can post in their forum. The VCCA leans more toward originality & keeping vehicles stock. Someone there may have a good source for OEM style replacement spokes.

I have a couple more questions. After looking everything over. It looks like I have most of the large body parts and hood. We still haven't located the doors
Wondering if someone stole them off the farm.

The other question is:
Does anyone know if the same doors are on earlier or later years will fit?

Dinodave, when you change topics you need to start another thread. Why, because many will look at the heading of the thread and think I've already read all I want of that subject and skip on to the next. You will get more lookers therefore more responses to your questions. Just trying to help you get the answers you seek.

Dave,

Sorry, I must be missing something, I don't see any spoke wheel pictures.

FYI, Chevrolet's last wooden spoke wheels were on the 1928 model trucks...1929 and up all had steel disc wheels. So your 1930 "LR" would have rear wheels just like those shown on your frontend picture.

839901 block casting code might be 1929-30 194 ci block

If that is correct, the J 9 9 would be a November 9 1929 code?

The originals are not spoked wheels. I just like the look of them and would eventually like to buy some.
I've seen a lot for sale of the chevy 29,30,31,32,33,and 34 trucks for sale all over the web. But I wouldn't trust the old wood (They all look rotten to me)in them without rebuilding.

The last 1929 engine was #1,265,800 in October 1929.

Dave's number is T 91,426 (T = Truck). With about 33,000 engines cast every week that puts his engine in the 3rd week of 1930 production which would be early November.

His manifold casting number is also correct for 1930/31.

I'm convinced he has a very early 1930 model year truck.

Dave,

Find complete wooden wheels that have the correct hub and diameter you want. Then take then apart and inspect/replace/refinish/rebuild. It will be easy to make new spokes with a pattern, different wheels will have a different number of spokes per wheel.

There's a reason manufacturers went away from wood spoke wheels. They aren't safe & don't age well. The VCCA tours my wife and I go on include several wood spoke wheel cars & trucks. We have to limit our touring speed to 30 MPH because of them. If that's what you want go for it but be aware of the downside.

I'm not sure, but I believe Coker just makes wooden spokes for your wheels and hubs.

You guys are teaching me so much very quickly. I'm so glad I hooked up on this site. Sure is saving me a lot of time and research. I'm sad that the wood wheels are a downside, They really look cool. Bummer!
