I think the 228/248/270/302 are the same length?
Maybe someone will comment/confirm.
It looks like they can be "interchanged".

Someone will have to confirm that the 228 clutch housing will work, or if you will have to change to your 1953 Chevrolet truck clutch housing.

Most likely, you will have to use the 228 clutch assembly.

The GMC is longer by about 1 inch. The front motor mount has to move forward. The radiator also will need to be moved.

Just found a 228 so I was just pondering swapping the old babbit bearing 235. I have a 292 but thinking it might need to much modifications to make it fit. That maybe the 228 would be easier

Think again.
The 228 is 2" longer.
Do search there's plenty of info on them both.

292 would be as long as any GMC. Need to move the radiator into the radiator support(grille support). Several px here, look through last month's posts.

Parts are just as aviable for a 302 as a 228, so, may as well get more displacement.

The PO of my truck put a GMC 228 in my 1947 3100. The hood latch upper panel (shroud) was notched out an inch or so. The original three speed is still in the truck. It's a doable swap.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Good luck,
