Can someone confirm that the generators are the same on the 1946 GMC trucks as are the 1946 Chev. trucks? I just wanted to make sure whereas the GMC is Pos. ground and the Chev. is Neg. ground. My thinking is that it should make zero difference to the generator, the rotation is the same on both engines, output should be the same...etc...etc...
I need a serviceable generator to replace my bad existing generator.

A generator can be polarized either way. The part numbers might not match up between Chevy and GMC, but as long as it's polarized properly the charging system should work OK. Not so for regulators- - - -most of them are polarity-specific.

According to Hollander they are the same. Also used on Chevy cars, Federal, International, Mack, Olds, Packard, Pontiac, Reo, Studebaker and White.
