Um, Don .... The K-19 boys can tell you that rain suits (even Tyvek ones) don't do much for Gamma Radiation ... But then again, from what I'm told, most thongs only emit Alpha Particles ... so you're probably okay. Mumus are known for highly focused Beta Rays, by the way ...

If our Safety O wasn't twerping out over butt parking, he would have already briefed you on this ... But he's not nukleer trainedicated like we are (I spent 5 days in the nukleer Navy oncet...)

You are correct, Alpha will not even penetrate the bare eyes.
Gamma will penetrate the skin just a little.
It's the sudden release of neutrons, that you have to be careful of, during an T/M inspection.
The proper protective clothing and neutron detectors will enable you to exit the hazard quickly and disrobe all the contaminated gear quickly.
In extreme cases, full face respirators, wet suit and double gloves would also be required.
In severe cases, air supplied bubble suits may be required.

I am qualified to don any of the above mentioned protective gear and perform the duties of TMI.

Mike, Sounds like a fri early AM departure stopping at Leons is in the works if interested (me and Mike B). Will see if the FBurg and Charlottsville folk might meet a group at Leons.

I'm in for as early as necessary on Friday. This might finally be the year to pull some 22.5 wheels I've put off doing in WV. Not that I desperately need them but they're nice and getting harder to find.

Well I owe you one and Joe one. Already have what I need installed which will be unused/extra in several months.

Currently getting ice on top of 4" of snow, but it's warming up this week. I'm sure it'll be muddy, but Friday/Saturday look awesome.

George, I was figuring on mud, even before this latest storm. I bet it will be sloppy now. They are calling for close to 60 here in the DC area Saturday and Sunday. Thats a whole lot better than the 6 degrees at my place Sunday morning.

I plan on putting the mud tires on the Suburban before heading down. Should be OK at Frankies, with all of the muscle around to pull me out.

Is the junkyard tour Saturday, Sunday, or both? I will probably try to pick a day to be there rather than the whole weekend. Really interested in the junk yards. Any suggestions on the best day? 52Carl are you going?

George - What time is the Friday morning role call at your place for Leons?

Joe, Leon's is near Culpeper, actually the township of Leon, VA, a good hour or so from George's place. A 'trip to Leon's' is not on George's itinerary, to my knowledge. Did you mean Frankie's?

Please excuse/forgive me for posting this (I am feeling nostalgic - my Suburban is trapped/resting in a garage in NC):

Leon Thompson owned/established the used auto parts yard/farm.

Leon Thompson, Jr ran the farm when I regularly visited in late-60s and early-70s. His young son was usually near the office (down hill from their home), which became surrounded with vehicles and storage-shed school buses.

I do not know if the personal name "Leon" is related to the location name "Leon". But, I do know why they had/have the motto "the walking man's friend", with a friendly "Here tis" on the sign on the front of the main shed.

If your car needed to get fixed, you'd be walking, and when you wandered the yard/farm/area you'd do a lot of walking,

Several sheet-metal/body parts on my Suburban (and the 261 engine) came from Leon's around 1972-1974.

I too am curious when we're starting Friday morning?
If we're to make a good day of it I think we should head for WV no later than lunch time.
I'd be ready to go at 8:00 (or sooner) just let me know.

Trip to Leons (enroute) is not planned stop this time. Not enough time.
Mike B and I, from SOMD, hope to make the WV movement and planned to arrive to George's around noon. If that is holding folk up, I will get up earlier and drive faster. Please let me know when the WV departure is planned and I will adjust.

Joe, duly noted. I had privately pm'd Hambone and Mike B. who were planning to go to Leon's en route from MD. I did further make them aware that Leon's has abbreviated hours off-season.

Leon The Younger is computer savvy and IMHO 'knows what to charge'. For a better opinion of what is available there ask Mike B., he was there a couple years ago.

I would have liked a trip to Leons. But, I may have another plan. If that falls through, if I may, I'd like to ride along maybe.

I did talk to Mr Leon today, he said his hours are the same...be there between 8 and 9am...no ones alowed in the yard after 9 as they tend to make him stay late not realizing just how big the yard is.

As Hanbone said, we will not be stopping there this week, however there is talk about making it a day trip very soon...maybe in March.

The JYT starts Friday and ends Saturday evening. Some attendees arrive Friday and stay overnight at my house, then leave after the junkyarding is done. Some arrive Saturday morning and follow us to the junkyard.

I am not involved in the "Leon's" portion of the trip, so I have no scoop on that.

For those who are here by noon on Friday, we will be taking a trip to one of our favorite junkyards in WV.
