Is primer color a consideration? If I am going to paint dark green would a dark or black primer be better than a light gray primer? Dave

You will....get chips, they are unavoidable, a light white/gray
primer will stand out like a sore thumb.
Typically a light color primer will work better under a light
color and vise versa for the dark. The less contrast between
the two the less you will notice it.
Also in some cases your choice of the primer base can lighten or
darken your top coat unless you are laying down multiple heavy
coats of finish.
Here's an example of the prep for a Mariner Blue paint finish.

On the hood and fenders I made the mistake of using
DP50 light gray and I'm paying the price.

When I was involved with aerobatics, it was just good common
practice to paint your fuselage a light color such as light
gray. The contrast of a dark crack on the light background
showed up where it would go undetected with a dark background.

The 41 is about done. I am building a bit of a hotrod, 46 on an s10 frame it is coming along nicely. Now I suppose you want to see a picture! Dave

Ya got it on skis in the winter??
I've still got a set of plans for a WagAero Cubby that I'd
planned on building after I got the Wag-A-Bond flying. I got
it finished up to the point of cover but never got it done
before I had to accept that flying was not for the blue collar
class. Try as I may, I never could break out of my class structure.
But before that day, I did get about 300 hours in the Pitts
S1D I built before it. Both went within a few months of
each other and I had tears in my eyes as each faded out
of sight down Route 34 on the back of someone else's trailer.

Supercub on Beaver Floats

Denny, yes on the supercub, not enough snow for skis here. This is how my cub gotback to town before I rebuilt it.

And it did work for me, came home in pieces I see.
Never realized a beaver was that big, always though
they were a bit bigger than a 172 or maybe a 182.

If your painter knows what he is doing, he will put some of the paint/color in the primer!!
