I'm going to be re-wiring my pickup this weekend using the stock wiring harness for a '51 3100 ( This wiring harness) ).

Who has general tips or tricks and what are they?

NOTE: I've already labeled the end of each wire per the diagram provided.

Always good to ask. First follow the instructions, then ask the experts. I am getting ready to do the same to my 51 GMC. Good luck.

I like to start at the fuse block or at the fire wall.

Loosely lay all of the wires out to there general location (left side of engine, right side, rear etc.). This allows you to visualize how simple it is. Get EVERYTHING straped in place BEFORE you make any connections or cut any wires.

The last thing I do is the final connection...make sure you route the wires so they won't be in the way of items not installed, like exhaust manifolds or pipes. I also like to leave just a little slack just in case I make a bad connection I have something to work with and for vibration/movement.

Also don't forget to install the grommet before putting the wire through a sheet metal hole...

follow the directions, take your time, lay out all the wire where why go and double check everything before you hook any thing up. And don't forget the grommets. root

Completed this project and it seriously is the easiest wiring job I've ever done. Label every terminal, layout the wiring and plug it in. A multi-meter is still critical to ensure switches/bulbs work as desired, but check grounds, label everything and it's a simple job.
