Does anyone have any suggestions for bracing the lower rear of the rear fenders that hangs below the bed? They seem very vulnerable at this point, and the strap metal on the outside looks like ----. Thanks, Scott

41-46 fenders are not all the same. Chevrolet progressively added reinforcement to that area during the run, so their modifications could be followed if you have an earlier truck. What year is your truck?

My 46 has a 3/8 rod that ties back to the frame. The rod is flatened each end with a bolt hole.

Where does it attach to the fender? Also the other bracket that is the only one that I think came on the 41, do the bolt heads just protrude on the outside of the fender? I also see that in 46 they added one to the top middle of the fender, how does this attach? Thanks, Scott

On my '46 rear fenders the top bracket was held in place with rivets. The bottom bracket was bolted with head, protruding. I am uncertain that was as it came from the factory, but it sure looks like it might have been.

I have been looking at restorations in the gallery and photo buckets and don't see bolt heads, or rivets protruding on rear fenders I'm curious what others are doing?

Rivets were used at the factory. They were painted with the fenders and had a low profile head, so they aren't that noticeable.

Some people weld the bracket to the fender instead of using rivets.
Some people bondo over the rivets. ohwell

Just another suggestion, although not stock, but on my 48 Chevy 3100 I used button head stainless fasteners and didn't even paint them; maybe not the look you're after but practical, and I have gotten some positive comments. https://flickr.com/photos/17941370@N03/sets/72157663666850532

Yeah that looks clean, I'm thinking stainless clutch head 1/4" bolts might just be the ticket. Thanks, Scott
