I thought you guys were supposed to be my truck fixin' buddies. Where's all the advice? Ah, that's OK it's kind of a dumb problem anyway. I'm dealing with the same stake pocket rust and I can't improve on Fred's answer unless you want to remove the stake pocket. I hope you hound dog comes back. | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 49 Member | | Member Joined: May 2001 Posts: 49 | Prior to using Zerorust, my method of dealing with rust was to grind it off, prime it with Rustoleum, paint it, then a few years later grind off the rust, prime it with Rustoleum, paint it, then a few years later... Haven't had a recurring rust problem since using Zerorust.
Sorry to hear about your dog running off. Hope he comes back. If he doesn't, I've got a cat that I can let you have. I'll pay shipping...

I've used it on a '80 F*rd Courier pickup which had constant rust problems on the fenders behind the front wheel and the bed. After a year or so of the Rustoleum, evidence of new rust would start to show. But I just took a close look at it and the paint on the Zerorust primer looks just like it did when I applied it. Very solid and no evidence of rust. I'm happy with it. Especially since I didn't do that great of a job grinding off the old rust or applying the primer.

And let us know if Jed returns. There seems to be a discussion in The Lounge section on where to get Zerorust. As far as I know, J.C. Whitney still sells it thru their catalog, at least they sell the primer which is the main thing. That's where I got mine.
And Luke, I'd be interested in the results of your experiments. I've got a friend who swears by POR-15, but that's just a bit too expensive for me. Like I've said, I've had good luck with the Zerorust, albeit for a relatively short period of time.

I got lucky and there is a dealer here in Winnipeg that handles all of Manitoba and Saskatchewan I think. He said he ships zr by the truckload to Northern SK.
