How do I remove the steering shaft and tube from the steering box? | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | 1946 GMC 1.5 ton? Do you have a Shop Manual for your year/size/make truck? Maybe the Chevrolet Shop Manual will help? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,228 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,228 | Read this, https://www.flickr.com/photos/advance-design_parts_co/sets/72157632210242370/ Yours very similar to the one in the manual. All the same adjustment will be made in the same order. The tube comes off, but the shaft is part off the steering box. Both need to come out the bottom of the cab. On my '37, I can wiggle the tube around enough to come out the top, but it's pretty tight and no real need to do it that way. Its much easier to lift the truck up on stands and drop the gear box out the bottom. | | |
