I think I would try roll on bed liner for the wood. Cover all sides and drill the holes a little oversize and let the liner material run into the holes. Should be long lasting and fairly easy to clean. As for the steel frame PM me and I'll donate you a gallon of Tractor Supply enamel (I have a few colors to choose from) you will just have to come get it.
