Just agreed to buy a 1964 C20. Wanting to upgrade by adding aftermarket heater and AC, also wanting a modern stereo, under bed fuel tank. Truck appears to have a generator(completely stock). Is it 6volt in 64? To convert to 12, what all will need to be changed? Would like to keep original gage configuration but what happens there when I go to 12v?

Welcome to the Stovebolt wave

Your 1964 truck is 100% 12v since new. The last 6v Chevrolet truck was the 1955 1st series.

As B says, it is already 12 volts. You will need to switch to an alternator if you plan on adding acsesories.

A 64 Chevy truck should have an alternator in it from new, shouldn't it?

I believe you are right. He said generator. He will probably want upgrade it to 65 amps or more if he is going to run A/C.
