Is it the driver side rear most head bolt on top? 1950 216 engine

Even though the pitch of a nominal 3/8 NPT is 18 threads per inch, it is a tapered thread and the 216 sender socket is UNF which is a straight thread. The tap drill for both the 3/8 NPT and the 5/8-18 are both 37/64" this is where the confusion often comes into play.

Had to make my own adapter
Ran a 5/8 18 UNF die over a 3/8 brass adapter.
I will never forget that size, got the info from pre68dave

The sender bulb being fixed to a capillary tube meant that it couldn't be turned so they used the same principal as a flared tube and flare nut, with a straight thread to seal the bulb into the seat. And GM wasn't the only one using that was to install mechanical temp gauges, it was quite common before the advent of electrical gauges. dg
