Whitelightning and guys...if i undercoat the hood and chasis with rustolium...what colour should is use?

If you use a black ...won't it be hard to see
any new rust forming rather than if you use a
lighter colour such as grey or choacoal grey?

On my 88 chevy van the factory colour is greyish under the chasis...i would think this would allow you to spot any rust forming earlier?

Your input appreciated

I usually use the satin black on my inner fenders, because it was the closest to original gloss of GM. I guess it's actually your choice of color, like you say lighter will let you see if any new rust is forming. I usually use Satin Black on parts that I,m not going to spray rubberized undercoating on. smile

Whitelightning...ok "satin black" rustolium is the way i will go too...as you seem to know what is best.

However would you tell me why you don't care for rubberize undercoatings?

Thanks!

why not use zerorust for this area? I believe it's suppose to be a bit of a satin flat black.

Hey Solowookie...was just watching star wars the other nite...have the three tapes. Yes...i think we will check out the zerorust also.

We will use one of the two or both...perhaps certain places might use one over the other.

Hey...nice web page...and what a project. You must be pretty good with the welding stuff.

I haven't welded since high school... eek (but I have a feeling I'm gonna get some practice ;)) fortunately this is a ranch here, and I'm got lots of stuff to practice on.

oh I'll be practicing a lot... I've got an arc welder, but I need to get a mig welder too for smaller stuff.

Starrider88 I didn't mean I don't like rubberized undercoating. I used undercoating on inner fenders on side toward tires, I was talking about the side toward the engine, I used Satin Black on the engine side of the innner fenders and I used it on the frame rails, places that I don't want undercoating. I used black on the piece between the grill and radiator, also the horseshoe the radiator fits in. I'll probably use undercoating on underside of hood, to help deaden engine noise. I'll probably use undercoating on back side of rockers and even on underside of floor pan.
The only thing I will add is alot of people abuse the use of undercoating by spraying it directly over rust. I like to clean the rust off as much as I can by wire brush ect.. Then prime metal with primer then allow to dry, then apply the undercoating.
I,m just giving you my thoughts on how I do things, everyone on here has their own ideas that work for them. smile
