I posted a few months ago that I am looking to upgrade the front axle on my truck. Had one response for a crown victoria or c4 corvette. Do these bolt on or weld? Any other options. Want to upgrade to ps and disc brakes. Looking to keep cost down too.

If you just want power steering and brakes, those are easy to do on you existing axle. If IFS, then there are other options, partly depends on proposed use.

I would like to keep this axle. Do I buy kits or will something work from other trucks?

Yes, there are kits to add disk brakes and power steering to the stock axle. CCP is one of the most well known companies that make them, and most of the restoration parts companies carry their products.

It is actually CPP (Classic Performance Products) they are here in So Cal. They have lots of aftermarket stuff but their installation instructions and technical service is somewhat lacking. There are numerous aftermarket suppliers for these products. I would suggest doing some research before buying from any of them. Not all of the aftermarket kits are direct bolt on and will require some modifications and a degree of mechanical skills.

Thanks Fred,I was hoping to find something that would work from another truck. Any idea what was the first year power steering was an option for the trucks?

If you have fabrication skills, you can easily adapt a late Saginaw box to your existing steering, rather than rebuild an early Gm PS box and install it.

There was a factory set up offered for TF trucks, quite rare and pricy if you find one. Any other PS conversion will require modifying the existing column or replacing it. I used a Toyota conversion. Installed it when I did the V-8 conversion in 2000.
It works well. I would estimate that a PS conversion kit is currently about $750, Disc brake kit with booster, etc, about $700. A complete Mustang 11 front end is probably close to $2500.
labor not included.
