is
there a way to take the door channel (weather channel)above the outside of the door off to make the doors look more like a modern door looks..or is this wheather channel needed,or does the door rubber not allow a good enough seal against weather..hum!!just woundering if i can rework the body and modify the door with a newer style of rubber around it just like a newer modle truck...i know i'm fishing here ...lol...lol..thank you.......gary

i'm sorry ....lol it is a 1950 chevy 1/2....going into custom and pro street ...i got so caught up in my idea the juices just started flowing....lol....i'm going with a set of late modle interior and exterior like door handle inserts...frenched head lights ...ya know everything that i have seen custom since i was a kid ....lol..........i figured i would ask maybe here in the body shop i just had the idea , that if i were to custom the doors it would have a cleaner looking edge for as far as the door goes....thanks.......gary

I think you are talking about the drip rail. Yes it can be shaved by either a cut-off wheel or a sawzall. You would then weld up the gap with your MIG and grind smooth. Personnaly I do not think the drip rail is a problem. Your time might be better spent shaving the door handles and hood trim. That drip rail serves a useful purpose.

Shave the sucker. When you shave the rest of the truck (everything)- having that smooth transition from roof to sides just looks clean. If you do shave other parts and leave the drip rail, IMO, it looks unfinished.

It will take a bit of time to do, and you must be patient - but I think it is one of the best mods that can be done to these old trucks.

As for it having a purpose - well I guess you could just avoid driving it in the rain!!!! grin grin

I have the opposite problem. Mine is falling off. have to find a way to weld it back on.

That drip rail is spot welded on. If it is falling off, it means that either the drip rail or the cab metal is rusted away at the spot welds.

YEA...I'M THINKING ABOUT SHAVING IT OFF...I ALSO THINK, THAT IT WOULD CLEAN IT UP ..I WANT THE OLD TRUCK ...JUST NOT THE OLE' TRUCK LOOK!!!I'VE BEEN LOOKING AT EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO GET IDEAS..... smile
