I have a 59 apache Fleetside. In the process of gathering parts to fix it into a street truck, I aquired a stepside bed also. Which one is the "one" to use. I like both and may just leave the fleetside on it. I always wondered what the old-truck guys thought was the coolest one. Should I switch. Is either one more valuable than the other? Thanks.

They are both in what I would call pretty good shape. No rust through, just some modest dings and dents. I had decided to go with the stepside, then I was looking at some restored fleetsides...anyway this is going to be a tougher choice than I thought. If I let originality take over, then its the fleetside, but we are changing the whole drivetrain....

Emil, it is your truck, so do what makes you happy, but I have to chime in with a vote for the Fleetside. Those '58-'59 Fleetside beds with the "rocket spears" down the sides are very sharp. I have always thought one would look really good on a truck with a '55-'56 or '57 front end. If you don't use it, put it in the Swap Meet - I'm sure someone would find a good home for it.

Those were the first of the steel fleetsides and they look great. Even w/o two toning like this one.

my 58 has the long fleet how could it get any better than this? . very unique & Chev only had this design for 2 years - besides, stepside are for decoration, wide beds are for haulin!!

GMCpanel - sometime in the near future I'm gonna fix up a decent short fleet box I've got and put it on my 57 "frankentruck" [TM by Joy]

Squeeze, I can't wait to see pictures of that! I like the look of the early dual headlight Task Force trucks better than the later ones with quad headlights, but I love the look of those Fleetside beds.

Fleetsides look so cool ,if I could scrounge one up thats what I would use.

Ugh! you guys are killing me with these great original trucks. I almost hate to update the drivetrain; I feel like I am wrecking a good truck even though it smokes like a mosquito sprayer. Looks like the Fleetside box will be the winner. (the step box is already a home-made trailer)

Popcorn: Yes, I realize you junked your stepside box but I suffer from a disease which does not permit me to get rid of anything. I guess, since it is already a trailer it can remain so for a while longer.
