The doors on my Carryall close OK, but don't lock from the inside.- neither the L or R doors lock when the handle is rotated in a CL (left) or CCL (right) direction.

Should i consider replacing the door latch assemblies (R and L)? Jim Carter carries them both for $35 each.

Sounds like the Altman latches are an alternative but you can't keep the vehicle original. - which i greatly desire since this is a barn find...

So...I did apply copious amounts of lubrication (ATF fluid plus acetone mix) to see if the existing ones could be freed up...but no luck so far

Any assistance is greatly desired....Lisa

could it be that the handle is spinning on the remote spindle? I compared my old original ones to a pair of NOS GM remotes, and the old ones the fluted spindle (or where the chrome handle goes on) are stripped down where they are smooth. If so, try a pair of vice grips , and see if they will unlock

There is also an adjustment for the remotes, shown in the shop manual

Does the passenger door lock when you use the key?
Does the lock mechanism function when the door is open? If it does, you may have an issue with the engagement of the lock at the striker plate.

Here is how the latching mechanism should work.

door latch operation

I don't see how the inside locking mechanism can not lock unless the mechanism is not going into the latched position. Refer to the 'door open' picture at the above link.

Very much appreciated, everyone - I applied some WD-40 and that freed up the mechanism - it's working now.

Thank you! Lisa
