I have new glass installed in the metal window frames (no vent windows)for the '40 cab, but didnt take em out and dont know how they are installed. The window has an open channel along the bottom, and I can see the 2 posts on the regulator, but what keeps those posts from simply falling out of the channel? I have nothing in the window groove around the door(need some felt/rubber?)and also need weather stripping for both doors. This truck is not original and if the orig weatherstripping is high, I could probably use a universal type stripping around my doors. How about maybe a picture of that window on a regulator and some ideas on where I could purchase the channel lining and door rubber. thanks, George in Tallahassee [email protected]

Steele Rubber Products for your replacement rubber. They have an on line catalog. As for the mechanical stuff I'll let the experts handle that question.

Thanks, but someone please tell me how the window glass w/frame that has an OPEN track on the bottom stays in the regulator pins? Am I missing something- seem to remember that window channel usually has edges to keep the rollers in them? George

On my 54 Chevy 3100, the door glass has no frame, but moves down felted channels on each side. The glass is pressed into a window track on bottom edge that the regulator roller fits into. On mine, there is nothing on either end of the track to keep the roller in, it just doesn't go close to the ends for that to be a problem. Classic Parts has a good video on the door rubber installation (47-61).

Hey George,

There may be differences between 40 and 41 trucks, but here are a few images from my 41 GI.

On a 41, the window regulator has two nylon (I think), rollers that fit in the track at the window frame bottom. The rollers are kept in place by a very slight indentation in the track.

Hope this helps,

Paul

54 rattletrap..........thanks for that info, wondering if your TRACK is just open on one side- with no lip. I can understand that the rollers cant travel far enough to drop off of the ends, but newer cars I worked on had channels that had short turn downs so that once the roller was inserted at either end, it could NOT fall out. Maybe these do not have that extra length on the open side but the felt keeps the glass rigid enough to stay put.

Thanks PAUL in WNC! I stay near Asheville all summer in Spruce Pine......you must be close! I looked CLOSER at my side windows and sure enough, what appeared to me as a completely open track had that slight indention on the top that you pointed out. I can see now how the weight of the glass along with fairly snug felt surrounding would keep the glass in place. THANKS!
