Hi Boltheads,
Have a question regarding my 1964 chevy c10 shortbox stepside. I bought a new - used box and it doesn't seem to fit quite right on my frame ??? the back cross support doesn't quite reach the frame and if I push it forward, the box is tight up against the back of the cab ??? In addition, my cross braces and bolt holes don't seem to align properly either. I thought all short boxes were basically the same ??? Any thoughts ???

Shortbox64, welcome to the Stovebolt. Since this is the welcome centre I'm going to move your question to the 60-66 Forum where the shop guys can help you out. Not everyone comes through the welcome centre every time they visit.
......or it could be ask in the Paint and Body forum.

As a new member, rest assured the guys here will help you out. Take a little time to visit the tech tips, gallery and post questions in the most appropriate forum for the problem you may have. We have one member here who does nothing but restore the 60-66 and I'm sure he can help you out....or after being moderated for 4 post you can then send him a PM (private message)

Keep watch to, there are other members here from your state and may even live close by.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile

Short box, visit the mar- k site. They have a good writeup on the changes to the beds from year to year. What I know off hand is that the corner braces, cross sills, and associated hole spacing does change. I believe the boxes are the same. Not sure why the rear will does not land on the rear frame. Welcome to the pages.

I am in the middle of building my 1965 Step bed and mounting it onto the frame. So everything is pretty much in pieces and the frame is exposed. Send me a PM if you want to compare frame holes, crossmembers, etc. Maybe you have a mixed set of parts. Our short step beds should be identical.

Welcome Shortbox64 to the Forums.. wave

I've loaded a bunch of photos over the years of my '65, in it's various stages of completion, into my build thread, check it out here: http://talk.classicparts.com/showthread.php?t=13928

I am sure some of them will help you sort things out.

I know that there are differences in the 64' and 62' models, as I transplanted a 62' onto my 64' thinking they were the same. After paint, and during the bed wood install I had a wake up moment. It worked out, and I even managed to get it done without any of the offset mounting bolts showing. Looks good ( enough for me).
Good luck with your project.

The beds are the same from 55 thru 66. the fenders changed in 67. The truck frame,s length & with varied. and some trucks where sold as a cab & chassis for a utility bed and none of the beds will bolt on them without modification.
