I know the striping varied from year to year but I don't know what theme was used for a specific year. I do know from factory photos that the '54 GMC had none.
All you folks with original wheels, would you post the stripe theme and widths and year of truck.
I've also noticed cab pinstriping variations. If your truck has any traces left please post the details. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,270 Renaissance Man | | Renaissance Man Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,270 | I don't have any pictures of the beltline pinstripes, but I have seen several originals (some 54 Chevrolets, no GMC's), and they varied in width and placement. Some were approximately 1/8", and others were 3/16". Some were lined up with the center line of the wiper bezel, others were lower. The one trait which they all shared was crudeness of application. They had roundish stops and starts at the intersections of cowl, doors, and lock pillars.

'53 Chevy yard dog, 3/16" stripe about 3/16" above cab joint.
'50 Chevy half ton, 5/32" stripe about same position.
'51 GMC 2-ton, 5/32" stripe about same position.
'47 Chevy 2-ton, 3/16" stripe about same position.
Greg Hill sent me pics of his '54 Chevy half ton, 1/4" stripe about same position.
'54 GMC did not have a stripe.
Organ builder's '53 Chevy and the '49 GMC Huck linked to seem to be consistent with these.
I'm thinking the position was set by the book for all AD/ND years that had the stripe. He mounted and spun each wheel - touching the applicator to the spinning wheel. He cursed at me because my tires were already mounted (the air-filler stem got it his way).
The 1/8" stripe on my 1954 Suburban wheels (to match the original 1/8" stripe on the cab "belt"). | | | | | Joined: Feb 2014 Posts: 125 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2014 Posts: 125 | Denny. Mine is a Beugler and works very well. You have to remember to pull it as the wheel pulls paint from the bottom and lays it down. Perhaps its the machining of the parts. The Beugler is a pricy beast and very well put together. I had no trouble with it. The trouble I had was following a line. My eye wants to look ahead rather than behind.
