Very nice Robert. What is a reasonable price range for a pair of those? Not mounted, just punched like your photos? And how do I find a shop in my area that can do 'em. What questions do I need to ask, besides can you guys do custom louvers?

That is some very nice work on those side panels. And the 35
coupe body work is some fantastic metal work. Really classy
looking floor pans and.....well, everything on that car is
classy, what more can one say. There aren't to many people
around with that sort of talent.

Amazing Robert! I agree with Allen.. what would one expect to pay for a flat panel with just the louvers? I can then butt weld the louver piece into the panel because I lack the talent to do the whole thing so nicely!

I have this ambitious idea, but I have been lacking the ambition lately to see it through. Since 41-46 was the last year for side opening hoods, and the 47-55 takes cues from 41-46, those transition years could [easily] be made side opening as well. I have not figured any of this out yet, but if I did it, Louvers would be something that would look like they belong there.

Thanks for the comments guys. Unlike punching louvers with a fixed size punch, it's a bit more difficult to assign a price value to something like this in a price per louver scenario, we basically did a time and materials.

Allen, for long louvers like what we did, I would search for a shop with a Pullmax machine capability, but one option may be to search on some of the metal shaping sites for people in your area. They could either do the job if they have the capability or point you to someone who could do it..

Beautiful Robert! I've been following the build thread on the HAMB. Cody Walls doesn't do anything half-assed.

More louvers for the 35 Chevy, these are for some highly crowned inner fenders that Cody made. We needed to make a rotation fixture from a Mini Cooper wheel hub to keep the punch perpendicular to the panel.

My only concern is the dirty shame of covering up this work with paint. It probably won't present as well as it does now.

Cody said he is beyond ready to paint the car, it seems every show he's got to Scotchbrite all the sheet metal to remove the surface rust where all the handprints have been and then cover it with Gibbs .... only to repeat at the end of each show.

The radius louvers will be behind the front tires above the frame rail, so they will be more functional than anything. May be able to see them inside the engine compartment.

Punched more louvers last night, this time in 18 gauge polished stainless...

Beautiful Robert. Looks like a pretty intense machine you guys are using to gen those panels. Have you by chance bumped into the Hilton HotRods gang up there near you (Va). They had about 4 blown Model A's at the Lonestar Roundup that had some louver work like this on them.
